What's the difference between Original Medicare, Medicare Supplement, and Medicare Advantage?
Understanding your Medicare options is the first step toward choosing the right coverage.
- Original Medicare (Parts A & B) provides hospital and medical coverage through the federal government but doesn't cover every healthcare expense.
- Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans work alongside Original Medicare to help pay certain out-of-pocket costs, such as deductibles and coinsurance.
- Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. They provide your Part A and Part B benefits through the plan and may include prescription drug coverage and additional benefits.
Each option has different costs, provider access, and coverage rules. We'll help you understand the differences so you can make an informed decision.
When should I enroll in Medicare, and what happens if I'm still working?
Most people become eligible for Medicare at age 65, but the right time to enroll depends on your circumstances. Your Initial Enrollment Period generally begins three months before the month you turn 65 and ends three months after.
If you're still working and have employer-sponsored health insurance, you may be able to delay certain parts of Medicare without a late enrollment penalty. The rules depend on factors such as employer size and whether your coverage qualifies.
We'll help you understand your enrollment options, important deadlines, and how Medicare may coordinate with your existing coverage.
Does Medicare cover prescription medications?
Original Medicare generally doesn't cover most prescription medications you pick up at a pharmacy. Prescription drug coverage is available through standalone Medicare Part D plans or many Medicare Advantage plans.
Although we don't sell Part D plans, we can point you toward Medicare's official resources and explain what to look for when comparing options, including your medications, preferred pharmacies, and potential out-of-pocket costs. You can explore available plans at Medicare.gov.
